Don't Fear Change Embrace It !
Humera was a bundle of nerves. As she walked to school, worry plagued her; what if people underestimated her? What if the other girls didn’t like her? What if she didn’t fit in? Don’t get her wrong, she loved what she loved and tried her best to not let anyone change that. She thought of all the happy memories she had with her old friends, her primary school, her favourite teacher and all the positives. She loved playing basketball; it made her feel like she was on top of the world and also helped her forget her homework (that she always forgot to do).
Pushing all these thoughts to the back of her brain, she continued to walk to school. Knowing what would happen if she continued down this rabbit hole, she didn’t want to let anything get in the way for her first day at school. Making new friends and, hopefully, joining the school’s basketball team were on the “exciting list” for her new school.
The school was huge! Unable to comprehend how she would find her way to all her classes, she bumped into another girl that seemed to be walking to the same class as her…
The day flew by. Of her five classes for the day, she loved English the most, where she sat next to her new bestie Badira, though nothing could ever beat P.E!
Before she knew it she was changing into her new P.E kit and heading into the sports hall with Badira, ready for try-outs, not once did she think about the rabbit hole she had fallen down that morning. Basketball was great, all her nerves were burnt out and the only thing on her mind was the game at hand, she dribbled and scored through every team, scoring three pointers and surprising all teachers.
At the end of the games, Humera and Badira sat down on the bench and gulped down water. Still full of adrenaline, Humera's mind fled through the whole game, unintentionally making a “pros” and “cons” list of the hour. She listed the positives and negatives of the day, Humera couldn’t honestly think of anything for the ‘negative’ side. Maybe this school wouldn’t be as bad as she imagined, maybe she had been overthinking and the thought made her smile, full of gratitude. Just then Coach Sabrina called them over to announce the results of who would make the team..
Humera and Badira cheered all the way to the changing rooms. They had done it!! She would make sure to never forget this day! The first game would be next week and it would be her chance to shine.
